Ugandan tour operators who were heading to Durban, South Africa to attend the Indaba tourism Expo 2019, were denied visas by the South African High Commission in Kampala. Indaba is the third booming tourism exhibition internationally after ITB and WTM in London. Unlike the other two exhibitions, Indaba exhibitors mainly target the African destinations. Ugandan tour operators have been attending this exhibition every year to bush for business and failing to grant them visas is a very shocking act by South Africans.
The Ugandan tour operators have blasted South African authorities for denying them visas for the much anticipated Africa’s Travel Indaba tourism exhibition.
“By Monday, so many Ugandan tour operators heading to Durban, South Africa have been denied visas,” says Great Lakes Safaris Chief Executive Officer, Amos Wekesa. He further said that the Ugandan tour operators had already paid for accommodation, transport and exhibition fees to South African organizers.
“Last month, millions of shillings were lost to South Africa many were denying visas trying to attend WTM, Capetown,” he added.
