Asantehene the King of Ghana arrives in Uganda for Kabaka of Buganda’s 25th Anniversary

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the 16th Asantehene, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana since 26 April 1999. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is in direct succession to the founder of the Empire of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu I.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of Ghana arrived in Uganda on the 29th/07/2018 and was warmly welcomed by the Katikoro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga at Entebbe International airport for his 5 day visit. He came to Uganda at the invitation of the Kabaka and will be the guest of honour on the 25th anniversary of the coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda, Roland Muwenda Mutebi II which is slated for 31st/07/2018.

This event is held every year and on that note it will attract a number of dignitaries from different parts of Uganda and the world at large. Buganda is recognised in Uganda as a constitutional monarchy, with an operational parliament.

Every year, the Kabaka attends two parliamentary sessions, one being the opening of the first session and the other, the closing of the last session of the year.

While in Uganda, the Asantehene will also hold a meeting with His excellence Yoweri Kagutta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda at the presidential palace in Kampala the capital of Uganda. Being the guest of honour, will get involved in a number of activities.

Briefly about Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
He was born on 6th/May, 1950 and named Nana Barima Kwaku Duah, the youngest of the five children of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, Asantehemaa (Queen mother of the Ashanti). His father Nana Kwame Boakye-Dankwa was from Kantinkyere in Ashanti and was also the Brehyia Duke of Asante. Nana Kwame Boakye-Dankwa died on January 1, 2002, in Kumasi, Ashanti.
