Police launches a new electronic express penalty system that will encourage transparency as well as cracking down on defaulters

Yesterday Monday, 25th June, 2019, Uganda Police launched a new Electronic Express Penalty Scheme that will encourage transparency as well as cracking down on defaulters. These new portable electronic machines and printers will replace old manual receipt books.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Sabiiti Muzeyi, the new system will help encourage transparency as well as cracking down on defaulters. A total of 1400 traffic officers have been trained to use the new system.

Using the new system, traffic police officers issue and print receipts to offenders. Defaulters can also be tracked using the system because driving permit numbers and number plates of vehicles are captured by the system.
