New Rhino is born at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda
On the 19th April, 2019 Nandi delivered a calf at around 6:00am. She was seen restlessly isolating herself from the herd mowing and corrugating her forehead while in labour. As the sun came out, the calf was now visible as it staggered to look for the mother to suckle on her. It is reported that mother and calf are well and in perfect condition.

Nandi, 20 years is the oldest on the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and is known as the matriarch on the sanctuary. She was brought from Disney animal Kingdom, USA and has had about five calves and now the sixth. The total number of rhinos now rises to 26 with 15 male and 11 female, thanks to Nandi.
The Ziwa rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda with white Rhinos in the wild, it was formed as a non-government organization (NGO) in 1997. It was set up to repopulate Uganda with wild rhinos and we are seeing the results of their work.

The Sanctuary has other animals that share the space with the rhinos that can be seen on a guided tour, not forgetting the different bird and botany species.
